By the Book | Blog Tour

Now I know I said the next time I would be back it would be a life update. Well things happened. And by things I meant coronavirus aka COVID-19. My exam is postponed and this blog tour is arranged before the announcement so even though my exam haven’t started I am still doing this blog tour post *pats on my own shoulder*

Back to the main event of this post, I am honoured to join this blog tour and to be provided an e-arc of this novel for reviewing purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.

Release Date: May 12th 2020

Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance

MaryPorter-Malcolm has prepared for high school in the one way she knows how: an extensive review of classic literature to help navigate the friendships, romantic liaisons, and overall drama she has come to expect from such an “esteemed”institution. Her love of literature even inspires her to imagine herself the heroine of a nineteenth-century novel. Not the sort who makes poor life choices and ends up dying of consumption while still in her teens, but the noble, virtuous, quick-witted type.

When some new friends seem in danger of falling for the same tricks employed since the days of Austen and Tolstoy, Mary swoops in to create the Scoundrel SurvivalGuide, using archetypes of literature’s debonair bad boys to signal red flags. But despite her best efforts, she soon finds herself unable to listen to her own good advice and falling for a supposed cad—the same one she warned her friends away from.Without a convenient rain-swept moor to flee to, Mary is forced to admit that real life doesn’t follow the same rules as fiction and that if she wants a happy ending, she’s going to have to write it herself.

Not going to lie a modern contemporary high school romance does not really seem appealing to me. But the fact Mary is a huge fan of books and classic literature does add some points to the book haha. Plus I do love the book cover design. How can I resist, I’m a sucker for book covers sorry

Although the general storyline is pretty cliche I like how the Alex doesn’t come in and save the day. Instead Mary go find herself some friends of her own and create some new bonds 🙂 Even though this is a romance book it has a good balance between friendship and romance which I adore.

Another huge plus for me is that everyone love reading. I am a huge bibliophile but I don’t read that much classics, there are so many references I think its time to read more books to broaden my knowledge on books. The discussions are so funny and full of references that it was never boring for me to read.

Through this high school experience I could relate to Mary a lot, I love books and I am in high school and sometimes immerse myself in bookish scenario a bit too much haha. In Mary’s journey there are quite a few things I could learnt from it. My favourite quote: “Be true to yourself and other people will see your worth. If they’re worth your time.”

The book is well-paced and I would recommend to anyone who loves reading and up for a chill, relaxed, fun read. You might be able to take a few things away after reading it! I had a great time reading this book. I finished it in a day

  1. I love the graphics on your blog so much! They’re so cute! I’m so glad you liked this book so much! Honestly I hear you, cover designs are my downfall too.

Also, IKR? Same! I’m a book lover that hasn’t delved into classics as well and when I read books that reference classics and all the characters have this intense and deep discussion about it I’m just sitting here going “Damn I want me some of that.” But where I’ll go for characters who’d enjoy to real-time discuss classics with me I don’t know; but a girl can dream.

Lovely review! The book sounds like a cute read and I’m glad you had a romance and friendships balance. ♥️ stay safe love!
